Install Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to be logged in as Administrator?

A: Yes, Cloning, Data Recovery, Wiping, Defragmenting RAM, Registry Access (Activation) all require low level access to the computer. Windows needs to know that this is something that you want done. If your not logged in as administrator low level access is blocked.

Q: How Do I Install the software with Setup.exe?

A: Setup.exe uses either Windows Installer 3.1 or 4.5. Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 all are able to open and install the setup.exe file correctly. Double chick on "Setup.exe" to start the installation process.

Q: I am running Windows Vista/7 and the download program will not start?

A: This is generally caused by the UAC (User Access Control). The account privileges and UAC determine whether a process is automatically elevated, or if the users is prompted to allow elevation, or if the process is rejected.

In addition to requiring administrative privileges most of our software (Being Utilities) also require elevation privileges as well.

Q: I have contacted Support and they say that there is no activity on the account?

A: Most often this is caused by the a firewall or anti-virus software in the system are blocking access to port 80 for reading. The activation module uses port 80 to access the activation server. You will need to configure the firewall or anti-virus software to allow the main executable (i.e. Launcher.exe) access via port 80.

Q: The program blinks or does not show at all when I attempt to start it?

A: Most users do not even know DEP (Data Execution Protection) is even running on their systems. The DEP or in some cases an Anti-virus program which is taking control of the DEP may be blocking our executable from running. The DEP monitors low level memory structures and will not allow Non-executable memory area's to be used. Most of our software uses memory outside of the "Normal" memory area's to optimize performance. Most operating systems do not have DEP on by default, however some software installs (SQL Server, .NET,...) turn DEP on during install. In some cases when third party anti-virus software is handling DEP operations, you may get a very unceremonious termination when running one of our programs.

While the following is for Windows XP, it is also helpful with other operating systems and DEP.

For more information on DEP see:

Q: How may Anti-Virus Software affect the installation or running of the software?

A: Our software is updated often, two or three times a month, sometimes weekly. This can cause anti-virus software to see the program as risky, as most anti-virus software programs maintain a list of programs that are mature (being in place at version for weeks, months, or years.). As our software is updated often, the software is usually seen by the anti-virus software as new, not used by anyone within their community or very few users, and labeled as "Trust unknown", or worse yet, as a zero day program. Zero Day programs are programs that are given no trust whatsoever, because many viruses updated themselves daily.
